Helicopters Could Be Coming Soon to Microsoft Flight Simulator

It’s been forty years since we got access to Microsoft Flight Simulator, and it has since become a staple in the PC gaming scene.

Realistic controls and gorgeous vistas being its major claims to fame, it’s not surprising the game has found a place in the Strong Museum’s World Video Game Hall of Fame.

However, despite the glowing reviews and accolades, there is one thing the game has been missing: helicopters. But, looks like that may change shortly.

The latest blog post on the game’s official website talks a lot about the future updates coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Among all the things discussed, a series of screenshots shows a table of feedback from the fan base. The #1 slot of the feedback table on the first image shows that helicopters are something the fans want to see in the game.

With 1,506 votes, the developer has confirmed that they will be planning to go ahead with that feature but don’t expect to see it before 2022.

The second image shows the #43 slot that says “Airbus Helicopters H135 Community Mod” and has 352 votes. The word “planned” has been typed next to this as well.

Helicopters are clearly something the fan base wants to be added to the game. We did get a third-party developer to add a single copter to the game back in May. FlyInside added the Bell 47 helicopter from M*A*S*H* to Microsoft Flight Simulator as a DLC.

A real pilot’s feedback suggested that this was a welcome addition to the game and boasted realistic controls. So, we got to know that it is a desired feature and entirely doable within the game’s engine.

Microsoft is currently looking forward to bringing the game to their next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X|S. The console version release was previously planned for June, but the date was pushed and will now be coming out on July 27th.

Thankfully, this is a game that receives a constant stream of updates from the devs, such as the recent major patch, which improved the graphics of Nordic countries. So, that means the addition of helicopters shouldn’t be too far.
