Forza Horizon 4 Will Stop Getting New Cars as Focus Shifts to FH5

E3 2021’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase saw the announcement of Forza Horizon 5, the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Forza Horizon 4.

The newly unveiled title will take racing enthusiasts to a diverse map modeled on Mexico, while the FH4 has drivers racing around the expansive countryside of Great Britain.

In FH4, developer Playground Games kicked off monthly content releases called ‘Series” updates.

These content drops allowed players to earn new cars by completing various events and objectives without paying any additional currency. But now, it seems that new content drops for FH4 will be a thing of the past.

In the latest episode of Forza Monthly, discussing how the development of FH5 will affect its predecessor, Playground said that FH4’s Series 37 update would be the final update to feature new content. However, there is a silver lining: content from Series 7 to 32 will make a return – of sorts – to the game.

“With Forza Horizon 5’s release being our priority over the next few months, we’ve made some changes to Forza Horizon 4’s monthly series updates,” said Playground senior producer Tom Butcher.

“So starting with Series update 340337, players who know the game well will start to see the return of content from Series 7 to 32. Think of it a bit like a mixtape, featuring the return of some of your favorite content combined with recently added new features”.

The update, arriving on June 29, will bring Mexican supercar Vuhl 50RR to FH4 for players to win.

When asked what the future holds for FH4 fans following the release of FH5, Butcher stated that while they aren’t ready to be revealed yet, there are plans that will ensure that “Forza Horizon 4 continues to be a fun experience” for players.

Despite being three years old, FH4 continues to rake in the moolah for Microsoft, not only on consoles but also on PC. The game arrived on Steam on March 9 this year and topped charts within 24 hours of release.

It will be interesting how committed Playground will stay to the game after the release of FH5. While no new content is undoubtedly a letdown, improved versions of old content are bound to bring many nostalgic players running back to FH4.

There is also the opportunity to win cars that players missed out the first time, which will make for a pretty strong incentive to return to the game.
