Konami’s newly branded eFootball, its rebrand for Pro Evolution Soccer, has gone free-to-play, and now we finally have the launch date – September 30th.

The news of PES being rebranded was revealed over the summer, and the way the game would function has also changed. Now, being free-to-play, Konami plans to ditch the yearly release schedule for a seasonal content update schedule.

The studio also stated that the game would be a demo at launch, so don’t get your hopes too high on what the unfinished game may look like when we get access to it at the end of the month.

At launch, the game will have nine playable clubs – Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Corinthians, Barcelona, Juventus, Flamengo, River Plate, and Sao Paulo. So, we’re going to see a mix of major teams from Europe and South America. There will be a few stadiums available at launch as well, including Old Trafford and Barcelona’s Nou Camp.

The only mode that is going to be available at launch is friendly matches. Players will be able to go head to head offline against AI or a friend or will be able to compete against people in the same system. PS4 users will be able to face off against those on the PS5, and the same goes for the Xbox One and Series X|S players. Actual cross-platform play won’t be available until the autumn update.

We can expect many new features to come to the game once it has been launched via updates. The first major update will include Creative Team, similar to FIFA‘s Ultimate Team, a Tour Event, and a quick match mode including more than 600 licensed teams. It is also planned for mobile platforms sometime in the future.
