Latest PS5 2.0 Update Reportedly Improves Game Performance for Users

The PlayStation 5 is quickly approaching its first anniversary, and while availability is still very scarce, the updates to the system have been consistent. Very recently, the PlayStation 5 received a massive update that allowed gamers to customize the experience as per their liking. It is now being revealed that there may be some secret benefits Sony has sneaked in as well.

As reported from Digital Foundry Direct Weekly, it was found that while running a comparison between the new and old PS5 firmware, some games can run a bit faster on the latest firmware.

This experiment was conducted using a copy of different games such as Devil May Cry 5 and Control. Results found that the games seemed to run 2-3% faster on the new PS5 firmware, which offered an increased framerate of 1-2 FPS. The difference is pretty minor, almost negligible when someone is playing.

However, the funny thing is that this difference isn’t consistent across all games and seems to be present for a select few.

Members of Digital Foundry explained these results, stating that the recent improved PS5 hardware revision offers a different cooling assembly, a better console stand, and other minor improvements. But aside from this slight improvement in performance rate, Digital Foundry, has concluded that there are no other significant differences between the current PS5 and the launch model.

The testing process also revealed that the old PS5 with the new software could run faster than the new PS5 with the older software. This was later rectified before the final results were gathered.

These kinds of minor results can’t be understood without the use of equipment, but it’s interesting to see that software updates to the console would be able to improve game performance.

We’re hoping that Sony keeps expanding and improving the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 with its future updates. The firmware update also bought several other changes such as expandable storage, disabling the screenshot icon, and the option to turn off the on-screen recording notification when players are capturing in-game footage.

Sony is clearly listening to its customers and is doing what it can to ensure that the console offers users the best possible experience.
