PC Port of Ghost of Tsushima Hinted at by PS4 Box Update

Ghost of Tsushima was one of the best games to release in 2020 and received praise from gamers and critics alike. It was also one of the best PS4 exclusives to release that year, going head to head with The Last of Us Part 2. The game now has a new box, and while most of the art is the same, there is a single detail that is missing.

Reported first by VGC, the “Only on PlayStation” label is now gone from the box, which many are taking as a hint that a PC port is on the way.

This can be seen on the game’s PlayStation Direct page. This is backed by previous experiences, as the same happened to both Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn in the days leading up to their PC ports. So, we could expect to see the game sometime soon on Steam, Epic Games Store, or other PC platforms.

But, it should be noted that Sony hasn’t exactly been super consistent with the “Only on PlayStation” label. Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, titles that sit on the fence between PS4 and PS5 don’t have the label, while PS5-only games such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Demon Souls also don’t sport the “Only on PlayStation” label.

Uncharted 4, which is already getting a confirmed PC port, still hasn’t updated its box art and still shows the label. But we’re hoping that changing the box art means that Sony has something planned for Ghost of Tsushima, be it a larger PS5 update (aside from the Game Boost upgrade it got earlier this year), a PC port, or both.

Back when Days Gone was announced for the PC, Sony CEO & President Jim Ryan said they have a “whole slate” of PC ports planned.

It’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.

Just before E3, Ryan settled expectations for the PC ports, stating that PlayStation is still in the early planning stages for which games will come to PC. Sony has also been giving mixed signals when it comes to cross-play. The most recent interview with Ryan seemed to indicate that the company showed some appetite for additional cross-play compatible titles.
