Ghost of Tsushima was easily one of the most popular games of 2020. And aside from being a commercial success, Sucker Punch also won the hearts of the fans through their portrayal of the island, Jin Sakai and the later released free online co-op mode, Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
In fact, the game had such an impact on players that they helped to restore one of the actual Torii gates which was damaged on the real island of Tsushima. Nate Fox, game director, and Jason Connell, creative director, have also been named as tourism ambassadors of the city of Tsushima by the island officials.
Given that the game has received so much love, it’s no surprise that Ghost of Tsushima has a 50.2% completion rate, the second highest of any open world PS4 game. This is based on the number of players who have received the “Mono No Aware” trophy, which is awarded when players complete the story. In comparison, here is a list of completion rates based on trophies for open world PS4 games, as per UnGeek:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man – 50.8%
- Ghost of Tsushima – 50.2%
- Assassin’s Creed Origins – 38.2%
- Far Cry 5 – 36.7%
- Days Gone – 34.7%
- Horizon Zero Dawn – 34.1%
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – 30%
- The Witcher 3 – 29.8%
- Death Stranding – 28.6%
- Red Dead Redemption II – 28.2%
- Watch Dogs 2 – 24.9%
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – 19.8%
The only game to beat Ghost of Tsushima in completion rate is Marvel’s Spider-Man, another fan favourite. It should be noted though that Ghost of Tsushima is a much more recent title, so this number most likely will go up, granting it the top spot very soon. Spider-Man’s in-game map is also much more condensed as compared to the sprawling map of Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima also beat The Last of Us 2 to become one of the most-downloaded PlayStation exclusives of 2020. The only games above Sucker Punch’s latest title were non-exclusive titles such as Minecraft, GTA 5, and Call of Duty.
