Kratos is Kicking Ass & Cracking Dad Jokes with Latest God Of War Mod

God of War 2018 gave us a completely new perspective at our main man Kratos. A Spartan general who was just a turbulent ball of rage in the previous games has now become a brooding and gruff veteran who must deal with the various challenges of becoming a father to his son, Atreus.  

However, despite his history, Kratos is still a dad, and along with his ax, he can now wield a father’s best weapon – dad jokes.  

The mod comes from creator Mophead and is titled the God of Dad Jokes, designed to make Kratos feel much more natural in the role of a paternal figure. The mod itself is quite simple and adds just a couple extra voice lines early on in the game.  

The first happens when Atreus apologizes for missing the stag with his bow the first time around. Kratos responds to the apology with the most fitting, classing response. The second happens when Kratos and Atreus visit the Witch in the Woods. When she asks him to head outside and collect springs of Lamb’s Cress – Kratos retorts by implying he is overqualified for the job.  

The installation of the mod itself is pretty straightforward: all you need to do is unzip the mod files in the God of War directory. Uninstalling requires you to backup or download the “uninstall” file from Mophead’s mod page and follow the same procedure.  

For those wondering if the addition of the new voice lines would sound strange, they don’t. The lines come from Kratos’ voice actor Christopher Judge and have been sourced from non-game sources, which is why they are the only two altered lines.  

Mophead explains in the description for the mod that changing God of War’s audio is very challenging, so more extensive modding than this would be out of his scope.  

With God of War finally on the PC platform, modders are having a field day, changing what they can in this epic Norse adventure. We can expect more mods and far more silly ones to keep popping up on the Nexus Mods hub.
