PlayStation Leak Hints at Potential God of War: Ragnarok Release Date

If everything had gone according to plan, we would have been enjoying God of War: Ragnarok this very year. However, a delay pushed it to an unspecified date in 2022. The popularity of the series reboot with God of War 2018 has the hype high for the sequel in Kratos’ Norse adventure.

As such, it’s not strange that fans are getting impatient at this point. Well, those players now have a potential date to mark on their calendars.

Sony themselves have not provided any specific release date, or even a release window, for Ragnarok. But that hasn’t stopped enterprising fans as someone has leaked the PlayStation database online, and this leak contains a possible release date for the next God of War installment.

If the leak is to be believed, then we can expect the game to hit shelves on September 30th, 2022. Given this is just a leak, fans should treat this information with a healthy dose of skepticism.

It could very well be the case that this date is just a placeholder, or it could hint that we can expect the game sometime in that quarter. We will have to wait a while to get official word on the release date, but this release window would make sense for the game.

September 30th falls on a Friday, and most games are released either on a Friday or a Tuesday. An early fall release date would also suit God of War: Ragnarok. This is the season when companies release some of their big-name games, and it would also give Ragnarok some breathing room of its own and not clash with other PlayStation exclusives planned for 2022.

The first significant PlayStation exclusive of 2022 is Horizon Forbidden West launching in February. We will then be getting Gran Turismo 7 in March, and Forspoken will be released in May as a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive. The first half of the new year is pretty busy for PlayStation, so launching Ragnarok in the second half would be ideal.

Those hoping for an early 2022 launch for God of War: Ragnarok will be disappointed, but some great games on the horizon can keep you busy until September, and the Norse apocalypse, rolls around.

About God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on November 9, 2022, for PS4 and PS5.

Ragnarok is the ninth installment in the God of War series, chronologically, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Norway and features series protagonists Kratos and his young son Atreus. The events of the game are expected to initiate Ragnarok – a series of events that, according to Norse lore, bring about the end of days and the death of the Norse gods.
