God of War Ragnarok: Release Date, Trailer, and Everything We Know

The God of War series creator, Santa Monica Studio, is now in the final phase of launching the highly anticipated sequel of God of War (2018), God of War Ragnarok, after its tremendous success and winning the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards, 2018.

God of War: Ragnarok is all set to be released in 2022, as Santa Monica Studio has officially announced the upcoming launch via their Twitter handle. Unfortunately, the title has no exact official release date as of now.

Interestingly, a Twitter account by the name of PlayStation Game Size has leaked that the PlayStation database suggests that God of War Ragnarok will be released on September 30th, 2022. Still, there is a reasonable possibility that it may just be a placeholder.

There is not much evidence to back up these claims. But, considering the release schedule of Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 in February and March, respectively, by Sony Interactive Entertainment, it seems more than likely that God of War Ragnarok will be available in the latter half of 2022.

God of War Ragnarok- Reveal Trailer and Characters

On September 10th, 2021, the Santa Monica Studio stunned the entire gaming community by dropping a much-awaited 3+ minute-long reveal trailer.

Apart from the magnificent visual and gameplay, the trailer revealed a bunch of lore. The trailer features a teen Atreus questioning his Jotnar heritage, vengeful Freya (secondary antagonist) attacking Kratos, and a few new characters, including the Norse God of War Tyr and Angrboda – the wife of Loki and the mother of Jörmungandr (The World Serpent).

Unfortunately, the trailer does not display the brutal Aesir god Thor, the main antagonist of the God of War Ragnarok, in his entirety. But, an Instagram post by the studio, dated September 10th, 2021, introduces all of the major featuring characters of the game and their character models, including Thor. Here take a look.

God of War Ragnarok Platforms

As God of War is a PlayStation exclusive series, God of War Ragnarok will only be available on PS4 and PS5. The same has been officially announced by the studio too. The official PlayStation website also confirms that God of War Ragnarok will offer a digital upgrade option from a disc or digital PS4 game to the digital PS5 version for an additional cost.

Will there be a PC port for God of War Ragnarok?

The God of War Ragnarok will not be available anytime soon on PC.

Cory Barlog, Creative Director for God of War Ragnarok, said he had no idea when asked if PlayStation and Sony Santa Monica had any plans to bring God of War Ragnarok to PC sooner than the four years it took to port the first game. While this is not a definitive no, it is also not the confirmation that PC gamers were hoping for.

Looking at the success of God of War (2018) on PC, it is safe to assume that Ragnarok will be available on PC too, but for now, no one knows when it will happen.

Note:At the time of writing, there are no official announcements regarding the game’s price and pre-order details.

About God of War Ragnarok

Ragnarok is the ninth installment in the God of War series, chronologically, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War.
