Gotham Knights Batman Family Behind the Scenes Trailer Explains Inspirations for the Four Heroes

WB games are bringing to us another title based in the streets of Gotham City, Gotham Knights. Set after the death of Batman, four heroes, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin, take up the mantle to defend Gotham as the successors of The Dark Knight.

This is the first time players will get to play these characters in a quad, and while everyone is excited to test the gameplay and combat of these characters, the story is also a major factor in this game. A game like this must have engaging character arcs to really grab in the players towards the story, and it seems like Warner Bros also has that in mind.

A new Behind the scenes trailer of Gotham Knights has been released, providing an insight into the four characters of The Batman Family. The developers explain how they balance each character’s comic origins with new surprising elements.

Each character has their own personality, attitude, and way of working, hence often times there is a conflict in the family. But one common reason that brings them together is the death of their mentor-Batman.

Gotham Knights - The Batman Family: Behind the Scenes

The trailer features multiple interviews about how the team approached these characters and translated these characters into a unique story about a “found family” beginning as no cohesive group.

Furthermore, because players will spend time with these characters with their masks on, the team had to weave narrative elements together to depict each character as an individual outside the mark, resulting in many “attitudes” and conflicts that push their interpersonal relationships with the other characters.

These characters, except Robin, have mostly worked alone and independently, and coming together is not an easy task. All in all, for fans of Gotham Knights or these DC heroes in general, the new trailer offers some great insight into this adaptation process.

The team also mentions that each character has their own story that develops as the game progresses. Moreover, each character is designed around specific shape languages: Red Hood is blocky, tank-like, and square; Batgirl is symmetrical and balanced; Robin is light and stealthy; and Nightwing is agile, angular, and sharp.

Its clear that the developers have really put work into the characters as much as they have in combat and gameplay, which is one thing that defines many well-known games. Plus, to complement the deep arcs of these characters, there are also multiple villains with their own agendas throughout the game.

The Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and Harley Quinn, are just some of the villains appearing in Gotham Knights. So far, what WB has shown makes it look like the game will really be something, so set your eyes on Gotham Knights’ release date, October 21st.
