Gotham Knights’ New 10-min Preview Video Shows Off Open-World Gotham

Gotham Knights is Warner Bros’ latest open-world crime-fighting title set in the city well known to players of the Batman Arkham series, Gotham. However, this time, Batman is dead, and it is up to a new young group of heroes to keep the streets of Gotham safe.

The four heroes of the Bat-family: Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl, will feature in an open-world version of Gotham encountering villains like Harley Quinn, Clayface, Mr.Freeze, and many more. The game is just a few weeks away, and the developers can’t keep themselves from showing it off.

A new Gotham Knights Preview video by IGN has been released, which showcases the open world of Gotham, including some action-filled gameplay.

In the 10 min video, Game Director Geoff Ellenor highlights that players will be able to explore almost all of Gotham Knights’ open world right from the beginning. This version of Gotham City which supposedly has 400 years of history, is split into five major districts, with most of those areas being explorable from near the start of the game.

Each of these districts is different from the others in terms of how you get around, the enemies you fight, the activities you can do, and the various characters that you’ll see along the way. The different villains in each district will each have their own agenda, and you can encounter them as you freely roam around the world.

With Batman dead, the people of Gotham, including the police, do not trust any other heroes for their safety. Hence, from the beginning of the game, you have to go and build up the people’s trust over time to show them that you are fighting for them and Gotham.

To help our four heroes through their journey is a group called “The Watch,” who are going to help them by being an “information network” for them, detailing where criminal activities are going down and where to head for some action at times.

Moreover, Gotham Knights won’t feature a day/night cycle, so all of the exploring and fighting will be done at night time, only seeing the sun when they return to the Belfry, which acts as the HQ.

You might recall that in the Batman Arkham games, everything that you did as Batman happens in the course of just one night. Instead, Gotham Knights will run through a series of sequential nights, with new activities to do and crimes to fight occurring at the end of each day.

These nights will also develop the stories of the major villains, giving the player ongoing missions that they can engage with or completely leave alone. Each major villain will have their own Villain Night, which acts more as a cinematic mission where iconic nemeses of Batman enact their most vicious schemes.

Fans have been excited about this game for almost a year now. With many delays last year, WB Montreal surprisingly announced that Gotham Knights is now preponed to release on October 21st, something we rarely see in the modern video game world.
