Forget Multiplayer, Gran Turismo 7 to Need Internet for Campaign Too!

Fans finally got a glimpse at the much-anticipated Gran Turismo 7 at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase. Besides the new stunning trailer, Polyphony Digital also revealed more information about the campaign mode that might bring a pang of disappointment to some!

The trailer provided enthusiasts with a great deal of insight into GT7’s iconic cars, wide-ranging customization system, meticulous tracks, and so on.

But there is more to a game than what the trailer exhibits. Finer details, for example, should also be revealed to let gamers learn more about the upcoming game. Thankfully, the devs at Polyphony Digital took to PlayStation Blog to provide potential players with more info.

President of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 would pack a classic GT Campaign mode. It’ll take players on a learning journey across Europe, where they write their own stories. However, there is a catch to it.

Gran Turismo 7 will require a continuous internet connection for you to enjoy the racing game’s campaign mode. Besides the game’s solo experience, this requirement also stretches to GT Café mode, Scapes photo mode, GT Auto, and Livery Editor.

Worst of all, the blog hasn’t provided us with any reasoning as to why the developers are asking for a persistent online connection. The only thing that the blog does is placing an asterisk at the very end along with the following words: “These features require internet connection.”

Now, there can be ‘n’ number of logic behind this decision. Internet might be needed for DRM or data collection purposes. Moreover, there’s also a possibility that TR7 might rely on server communication or utilize server data to update content daily.

Nonetheless, this is a very infuriating demand, especially if the campaign functions independently from the multiplayer. Even though most consoles are connected to the internet, this is one claim that’s never going to fit in well with the fans.

Now it’s up to Polyphony Digital to calm and persuade fans. If the features offered are dazzling, then I, for one, definitely support the devs.

However, suppose the game remains uninspiring despite putting forward a frustrating demand. In that case, Polyphony Digital has quite a job at their hand as convincing gamers wouldn’t be so easy then, would it?
