Halo Developers May Switch to Unreal Engine for Future Projects

Halo Infinite developers, 343 industries, reportedly might stop using their custom game engine, the Slipspace Engine, for Halo, and switch to the new Unreal Engine for future projects.

According to the journalist Jeremy Penter’s Twitter account, he confirmed, citing many sources, that future Halo projects will be developed using Unreal Engine. He stated that switching to Unreal to develop future games is a great choice and that it has been a long time coming.

Slipspace Engine, which was used to create the Halo games, will be replaced with the Unreal Engine for developing future projects. Halo Infinite had a rocky launch and post-launch, with Forge being delayed and Campaign Co-op being canceled recently for online players.

In addition to this, the lead engineer behind the Slipspace Engine left 343 Industries last month. The state of Halo Infinite has frustrated the players and it seems like 343 Industries is trying to make up for it by switching to Unreal Engine, which would potentially simplify the process of creating future content.

343 Industries is currently facing internal restructuring after the head of the studio had to step down due to an emergency. With the use of Unreal Engine, costs might be potentially reduced and workflow would be improved at 343. Switching to Unreal Engine will allow the developers to produce better Halo content as well as develop successful Halo titles in the future, without facing many complications in the development process.

While Halo Infinite has added brand new modes and events, the game is still lacking in weapons, maps and fan-favorite features. With Unreal Engine, 343 Industries might be able to resolve all issues and produce successful Halo games in the future.
