Halo Wars 2 Isn’t Happening, Says 343 Industries!

Co-developed by 343 Industries and Creative Assembly in 2017, Halo Wars 2 was an overall well-received real time strategy game. While not super detailed, the game was meant for those players who wished to explore the world of Halo without a gun constantly in their face. And in that respect, according to many reviews, the game succeeded.

The game saw constant support and improvements in the way of updates released by 343 Industries over the course of 2017. However, that support stopped by the end of the year. Later in 2019, in response to a petition calling for resumed support to Halo Wars 2, 343 Industries stated that it wasn’t a possible option.

“The same team that is currently working on bringing MCC to PC and Halo: Reach to MCC (the 343 Publishing Team) is also the team that helped make Halo Wars 2 a reality. With the large scope and immense amount of work surrounding MCC for PC, the resources that were previously focused on Halo Wars 2 have been pulled over to help support MCC and Halo: Reach development.”

“This doesn’t mean the team won’t revisit Halo Wars 2 in the future—we’ll never say never—but it does mean that these requests are things the team is unable to commit to for the foreseeable future.”

Since the above statements, The Master Chief Collection has been completed with Halo 4 launching on November 17th 2020 and players once again asked if 343 will again focus on Halo Wars 2. Unfortunately, the answer remains a firm “no”.

“We always strive to be open, honest, and transparent with our community and we know many of you have been waiting, asking, and hoping for news about the future of Halo Wars 2. We want to acknowledge that we’ve heard you and make sure you know that this feedback and these topics do indeed get brought to the right folks across the studio for further evaluation.”

343 Industries

“In the past, we’ve noted the Publishing Team was fully focused on MCC and we had no current plans to return to Halo Wars 2. Now, with all the titles on PC, we’ve seen these questions popping up again although the 343 Publishing Team is still working on more MCC seasonal content along with a variety of features and further improvements. “

“It’s not always easy to be open and transparent—particularly when we expect it’s not an answer the community wants to hear—but we want to give it to you straight: 343 Industries has no current plans for further Halo Wars 2 work including content updates, balance patches, bringing the title to other platforms, or a new game in the series.”

343 Industries

However, there is a ray of hope for Halo Wars 2 fans as the studio has mentioned the word “currently” in their statement. This wasn’t accidental as they have stated that they may refocus on Halo Wars 2 sometime in the future, but it isn’t super likely.

With limited time and resources, it makes sense that 343 would focus its energies on Halo Infinite and given the broader impact initiatives the studio is already committed to, they unfortunately can’t devote the time and attention needed to deliver additional updates and content for the Halo Wars franchise.
