Halo’s Original Voice of Cortana to Make a Return for the TV Series.

According to a recent report, Natascha McElhone, cast initially as Cortana in Halo’s television adaptation, can no longer fill in the role. Due to that, the producers are bringing back the voice actor from the video games!

Natascha McElhone can no longer fill in the role of either Cortana or its creator, Dr. Catherine Halsey, due to a lot of scheduling conflicts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyhow, Showtime has now enlisted Jen Taylor, the original voice actor of Cortana, for the series. For all the old Halo fans out there, this is great news, seeing as how Taylor has more than a decade’s worth of experience working in the Halo franchise, working the role since Combat Evolved to the upcoming Halo: Infinite.

That said, if there’s someone that can do the role properly and has prior experience with the franchise, there’s honestly no better person for Cortana’s role than Taylor.

Not to mention, Halo isn’t the only franchise she has had a part in. Some of her other notable works include Cate Archer in No One Lives Forever 2 and Contract Jack, Zoey in Left 4 Dead, Jessica Cannon in Sin Episodes, Atomic Wonder Woman in Infinite Crisis, and most importantly, Princess Peach in A LOT of Mario’s titles.

But here’s the thing, McElhone will continue to play the role of Catherine Halsey in the show, which is kind of interesting, considering how Taylor played that voice-acted her in the video games as well.

Anyhow, it probably means that Taylor will not make a physical appearance in the show but only serve as the voice actor for the CGI-based Cortana.

I only hope that this problem of scheduling and recasting does not delay the series any further. The show was announced back in 2013, but the production did not begin until 2018 and is set to air sometime in the first quarter of 2021, so any delay will be a little saddening, as many, including myself, are eager to see a proper adaptation of Halo on television.
