New Details for Battlefield 2042’s Nostalgic Sandbox Mode Surface

A promising leak from a few weeks ago revealed that Battlefield 2042 would come with a new sandbox mode that will feature some of the game’s most iconic maps.

While the mode known as BattlefieldHub remains redacted from the game’s website, we may have confirmation on it from a top DICE LA executive.

According to WCCFTech, GM of Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA) Christian Grass essentially confirmed the mode during EA’s Play Live 2021 Spotlight presentation.

In the event that focused on the future of FPS, Grass said the following about the upcoming mode:

I can’t say that much about it. What I can say is that one of the components in this experience that we’re creating is that we’re adding some of the fan-favorite maps back into Battlefield 2042. But the entire experience you have to wait a bit longer, before we reveal what that is.

Of course, EA Dice will reveal more about the mode at a time it sees fit, but it’s good to have confirmation that old maps will indeed be getting new iterations in Battlefield’s next installment.

Tom Henderson, who’s been at the center of all the leaks for Battlefield 2042, also had something to add.

Henderson took to Twitter to list the names of the maps he’s heard that will be included in the new mode. He also clarified that BattlefieldHub (or BattleHub) might not be the confirmed name of the mode.

Again, none of this information is confirmed, so reserve your excitement for when EA Dice actually drops an announcement.

However, what EA Dice did announce recently was a range of partnerships for the game. These partnerships include some of gaming’s heaviest hitters, and you can read all about it by clicking on the big ol’ button below.

About Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is the seventeenth installment in the Battlefield series developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. The game is a first-person online multiplayer shooting title. This installment of Battlefield will not feature a single-player campaign mode.

The year is 2042 and the world is in ruins. Natural disasters run rampant, ocean levels have risen, the world economy has collapsed, and the US and Russia are at war. You step into the shoes of a non-patriated soldier – a soldier without a side. The games’ story will be revealed through episodic additions, allowing players to create a future for themselves and other non-pats in a world on the brink of destruction.
