One of the biggest PlayStation exclusives of 2022, Horizon Forbidden West, has finally launched on both the PS4 and PS5. The game picks up almost immediately from where Horizon Zero Dawn left off, and players are eager to jump into the new adventure with Aloy. However, they will have to wait a little longer as a day one patch has been released for the game.
The patch notes for the update are understandably vague. The changes listed include fixes for instances of crashes or bugs preventing progression, along with general performance improvements. There are also changes to certain cosmetic issues. The most specific note is the fix for the bugs experienced with the Notebook feature that prevented it from being updated as the player progressed.
The good news is that the day one patch is not a massive download. Many games, especially the AAA titles, require players to download double-digit gigabytes of data as a day one patch; the one released for Horizon Forbidden West is just 525MB. Given that the game itself is an 87GB download, this is a negligible amount of extra data.
The day one patch is not mandatory to play the game. Reviewers who got the game early played without this patch and have had a very enjoyable experience with the game. Getting the patch should only improve an already highly polished game, as it would eliminate any graphical bugs and fewer risks of the game crashing or breaking.
Most players should not even notice the inclusion of the patch in their downloads. The addition of the patch will be a point of interest for those who like to keep track of what is changing in the game or for those who monitor their data download limit.
Horizon Forbidden West is now available in the most polished form Guerrilla Games was able to manage in the time they had. It should be noted that PlayStation 5 users can get the PS4 version for $10 cheaper and get the free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version.
