How did Atreus’ mother die? Who is she? Is Atreus a god? God of War Ragnarok

Faye was a huge part in God of War (2018) despite not making an appearance in the game. She does make an appearance in God of War: Ragnarok even though it’s for a very short time. She’s a very important person in Kratos’ life as she’s the one that gave Kratos a second chance at raising a child. But her true identity remained a secret until the end of the previous game.

At the end of God of War (2018), it was revealed that Faye was Laufey the Just, a Frost Giant from Jotunheim. She lived as a mortal and concealed her true identity from Kratos and Atreus. Her cause of death remains unknown but it’s speculated that she died of natural causes.

Faye originally wanted Atreus’ name to be Loki and she’s the one that taught him to hunt and read different languages. Even though we haven’t seen much of Faye, we can deduce that she deeply loved and cared about both Atreus and Kratos, and from God of War: Ragnarok’s beginning, we can tell that Kratos still misses her.

Faye is played by Deborah Ann Woll in God of War: Ragnarok. She’s an American actress and a model, known for her work as Jessica Hamby in HBO’s True Blood and as Karen Page in Marvel’s Daredevil and Punisher series. Faye is her first role in a video game.

She made a couple of tweets complimenting the team at Sony Santa Monica and also complimenting her co-star and Kratos voice actor, Christopher Judge. Check out the series of wholesome tweets below:

Is Atreus Kratos’ biological son?

Even though at the end of God of War (2018), it was revealed that Atreus’ real name is Loki, he’s still Kratos’ biological son in the God of War universe. In Norse Mythology, Loki is the blood brother of Odin and the God of Mischief. But Santa Monica took some liberty while creating their own take on Norse Mythology, hence Atreus being the biological son of Kratos.

He’s still the son of a Jotunn in the God of War universe, which is accurate to Norse Lore as well. Atreus is the second child of Kratos, Calliope was his first child but she was unknowingly killed by Kratos himself, which was a part of Ares’ plan to make Kratos a more powerful warrior. So, Atreus was not only his second child but also a second chance for Kratos to become the father he always wanted to be.

Is Atreus a God or a Demigod?

Atreus’ Character Poster for God of War: Ragnarok

Atreus is part Demigod and part Giant because he is the child of Greek Demigod Kratos and the Jotunn Laufey the Just. At the beginning of God of War (2018), he wasn’t aware of his Godhood so he believed himself to be mortal until Kratos revealed the truth to him in the middle of the game.

At the end of the game, it was revealed that Faye was a Giant, which also made Atreus part Giant, and he also learned that the name Faye wanted to give him was Loki. Loki is prophesied to play a huge part in the battle of Ragnarok in Norse Mythology, but God of War: Ragnarok shows Atreus trying to find answers of who Loki is and what part he’s supposed to play in Ragnarok.
