Not everyone has had the fortune of embracing the magical island of Aeturnum in New World. Users are suffering from insanely long queues as thousands of players are waiting to join in on the supernatural adventure! For those wanting to join any popular server, you’ll have to twiddle your thumbs with over 10,000 players!
So naturally, all those players who got in started looking for ways to avoid getting out. Such gamers began hotkey-ing the W key and kept running into walls. Fans thought they’d avoid getting AFK-kicked by keeping their characters in motion.
But such exploits soon came to the development team’s notice, and as a result, New World now houses the AFK timer to boot out inactive gamers.
Read this guide further to know for how long one can remain inactive and away from the keyboard in New World before getting kicked out by the AFK timer.
How long is the AFK timer in Amazon’s New World?
New World’s AKF timer is 20 minutes long.
Therefore, a player can afford to remain idle for a short span of 20 minutes only, as after that, one will be booted from the game.
The timer is activated from the moment you are inactive. Moreover, New World will send you a warning about your immobility at the top right corner of your screen if you have been away from the keyboard for 15 minutes.
By the time this notification appears, you will have 5 minutes to press any key and put your character into motion. Upon failure to do so, the AFK timer will throw you back to the login screen.
From here, it’s a soul-crushing path to get back into the game again by waiting in a ridiculously long queue.
The AFK timer previously tolerated inactivity of 25 minutes, but New World’s update 1.0.1 has shortened it by 5 minutes. Moreover, the update also ensures that players cannot fool the system anymore with simulated mouse movements.
But speaking from Amazon Games’ point of view, the implementation of the AFK timer is understandable.
20 minutes should be enough for a quick bathroom break, coffee brewing, or a brisk walk. Plus, the timer limit also allows you to take a recommended 10-minute screen break after an hour of gaming.
Compared to the timers of other MMOs like Destiny 2 (3 minutes) and Sea of Thieves (10 minutes), New World is bestowing generosity upon players.
So, stop complaining, as many players have it worse than you!
