How long does it take to beat Persona 5 Royal? Main Story & 100% Completion Time

Persona 5 Royal is the updated version of the popular JRPG Persona 5. You play as a high-school student called Joker, who has moved to a new town after being falsely accused of a crime. He discovers that he has the ability to harness other Personas, which are physical manifestations of his psyche.

Using Personas, Joker and a group of secret vigilantes called Phantom Thieves of Hearts battle enemies known as Shadows. You’ll be able to play as Joker, but you can also have some control over other Persona-using students that you encounter on your journey through the Metaverse. Persona 5 is a very long game, so here’s what you’ll need to beat it.

If you want to complete the main story for Persona 5 Royal, you’ll require around 102 hours. Completing both the main missions and the side missions will take you around 123 hours, while a completionist run of the game will take around 143 hours.

Your playtime can vary from the numbers stated above depending on factors like difficulty, as playing the game on a harder difficulty will result in you taking more time to complete it.

1. Difficulty

Difficulty Levels – Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal offers players five difficulty levels before they start making their way through the Metaverse, and they are:

  • Safety Difficulty
  • Easy Difficulty
  • Normal Difficulty
  • Hard Difficulty
  • Merciless Difficulty

Safety Difficulty is the easiest difficulty, while Merciless is the hardest. Playing the game on a harder difficulty will significantly increase your playtime, especially if you aren’t familiar with previous Persona games. Since there are no Difficulty Trophies in the game, we suggest playing the game on Normal Difficulty, which will allow you to finish the game quickly while enjoying it too.

2. Is Persona 5 Royal a hard game?

Kasumi – Persona 5 Royal

Like most games, when it comes to difficulty, Persona 5 Royal can be hard if you want it to be, but playing the game without having prior knowledge of how JRPGs work can result in you finding the game challenging even on easier difficulties. If you’ve never played a Persona game before, then all the mechanics can be overwhelming.

If you’re new to Persona, with Persona 5 Royal being your first game in the series, don’t be in a rush to learn all the mechanics or complete the game 100%. Focus on the elements that you like and move through the game at a balanced pace so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Trying to do a completionist run of the game on your first playthrough will only make the game harder for you.

3. How many endings does Persona 5 Royal have?

Persona 5 Royal has five endings, to be exact – good, bad, and original. Here’s a list of the endings that you can get in the game:

  • Selling Out Your Own Team
  • Accepting The Deal
  • The Original Ending
  • Accepting The New Reality
  • The True Ending

In order to get the True Ending, you’ll need to start the events of the Third Semester. Complete Akechi and Kasumi’s Confidant before their deadlines. Kasumi will need to be Rank 5 before December 18th, and Akechi will need to be Rank 8 before November 24th. Complete these deadlines along with Maruki’s, and you’ll be well on your way to getting the True Ending.

4. What is the difference between Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal?

Persona 5 Royal came out three years after Persona 5 was released, and it served as an upgrade. Tons of new content was added in Royal, which were not there in the base game, and Royal expands on the original game. Royal adds two new characters (Kasumi Yoshizawa and Takuto Maruki) and an extra semester with new events, cut scenes, etc.

Persona 5 Royal expands on the original game. While it essentially follows the same storyline as the original game, it certainly adds a lot more to the game and you’ll have a much better and fleshed-out experience playing Royal. If you choose to play the original, you’ll be missing out on some of the content added in Royal.

5. Will there be a Persona 6?

Joker / The Phantom – Persona 5 Royal

Considering how successful Persona 5 was, it’s inevitable that Persona 6 will arrive sometime in the future. Even though Persona 6 is yet to be announced, the developers at Atlus did confirm that more reveals were coming down the road during Persona’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. This could very well be a tease for the next Persona game.

An Insider named Jawmuncher on ResetEra claimed that Persona 6 was “a sooner rather than later thing.” They didn’t go into specifics about what the game will be about or when it will release, but they did state that Atlus will most likely announce Persona 6 in the near future, and the announcement could be sooner than we think. But for now, take these rumors with a grain of salt.
