How long does it take to beat Ghost of Tsushima? Main Story and 100% Completion Time

Ghost of Tsushima has an impressive and immersive open-world with tons of side activities and content which can keep players busy for long periods of time. There’s a lot to see outside of the main story which follows our protagonist Jin Sakai seeking revenge against the Khan of the Mongol Empire.

The game is beautiful so you might even spend some time in the photo-mode capturing shots of various regions in Tsushima. The numbers will differ from player to player depending on how they’re approaching the game but we’re gonna give you a good estimate of how long Ghost of Tsushima can take to beat.

Completing just the main story of Ghost of Tsushima will take you around 25 hours and completing all the side quests with the story will take you around 30 hours. A completionist run of the game, which means completing everything the game has to offer will take around 50-60 hours.

The difficulty is also a factor when it comes to completing games quickly because if you choose to play the game on a harder difficulty, then you might get stuck on a specific part, and Ghost of Tsushima’s combat mechanics can be pretty challenging to master.

1. Difficulty

Ghost of Tsushima Difficulty Levels

Ghost of Tsushima offers four difficulty modes which are:

  • Easy
  • Medium
  • Hard
  • Lethal

Choosing to play the game on a harder difficulty can be very challenging and time-consuming since Ghost of Tsushima’s combat can be very challenging. We suggest playing the game on medium difficulty, so you can focus on the story without worrying too much about the action.

2. How long is the Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima?

Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island

The Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima adds a whole lot to the game including an expansion that features a whole new region called Iki Island with new enemy types, a new campaign, and new side content. The expansion revolves around Jin moving to Iki Island after hearing rumors about Mongol presence there.

The Iki Island expansion isn’t as big as the base game but it still has a considerable amount of content. The main story of the expansion will take you around 4-8 hours to complete, and if you want to complete everything that Iki Island has to offer, then that will take you around 15 hours.

3. Is Ghost of Tsushima a hard game?

Jin Sakai With his Katana Unsheathed

Ghost of Tsushima can be very challenging no matter what difficulty you’re playing on. Button mashing will provide you no advantage in combat and instead, it’ll get you killed quicker. Even on the easiest difficulty, you’ll still require some amount of skill to slice through enemies and get used to the combat.

Defeating different enemies requires different stances which adds a whole new level of complexity to the combat. Parries are your best friend so parry an attack whenever possible in order to break the enemy’s guard. Ghost of Tsushima can be an unforgiving experience but if you practice enough and spend enough time in the game, you’ll get used to the combat in no time.

4. Does Ghost of Tsushima have multiplayer?

Ghost of Tsushima Legends

Ghost of Tsushima indeed has multiplayer in the form of a four-player co-op expansion called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is free for anyone who owns the game but you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription for multiplayer.

Sony also released a standalone version of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends for $19.99 similar to what Rockstar did for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. It’s worth noting that if you own a copy of the game, you don’t need to rebuy Ghost of Tsushima: Legends as you’ll get it with the base game.

5. Does Ghost of Tsushima have multiple endings?

Ghost of Tsushima Ending

Ghost of Tsushima has 2 endings and both of these endings can be regarded as good and bad endings. At the end of the game, Jin will battle Lord Shimura due to him refusing to follow the Samurai Code and adopting the Ghost persona.

After the deeply emotional battle ends, you’ll be presented with two choices that affect the ending of the game. The choices are:

  • Kill Lord Shimura
  • Spare Lord Shimura

The choice is ultimately up to you. Killing Lord Shimura will redeem you in his eyes as you’ll give him an honorable death but it’s a bad ending as Jin kills the only family he had.

On the other hand, if you spare Lord Shimura, Jin won’t kill him but confess his wrongdoings and admit that he lacks honor. Lord Shimura will dishonor Jin and call him a traitor and Jin will walk away wearing the Ghost mask. This is considered a good ending as it shows that even after everything, Jin won’t kill his own family.

6. Will there be a Ghost of Tsushima 2?

Jin Sakai in Ghost of Tsushima

After the huge success of Ghost of Tsushima and the Director’s Cut, it is no surprise that fans are already demanding a sequel. The good news is, Ghost of Tsushima 2 is most likely in development but it may not be coming anytime soon. Depending on when it arrives, it’s guaranteed to be a next-generation exclusive which means it’ll release only on PlayStation 5.

Sucker Punch has recently been in the process of hiring a Senior Games Writer for an “open-world game” and looking for a combat designer who has “played Ghost of Tsushima” and “understands its core combat systems” which proves that a Ghost of Tsushima sequel may be well on its way. Nothing is confirmed as of now so we’ll have to wait for more information on the sequel.
