How long does it take to beat Forspoken? Main Story & 100% Completion

Luminous Production’s first game, Forspoken, just released, and the gaming community has mixed reviews.

With a lukewarm score of 68 on Metacritic, this action-adventure role-playing game, consists of a generic storyline, but boasts of a distinct gameplay with fun combat and traversal elements.

NYC millennial Frey Holland is transported to the fantasy world of Athia where she must contend with the mysterious Break, battle monsters through magic, save the Athians, and find a way back home.

Forspoken is a surprisingly short game, taking an average of only 12 hours to beat. If you consider side missions, you can finish the game in under 25 hours. A completionist (100% gameplay) run of Forspoken will take you a minimum of 30 and maximum of 60 hours.

Since Forspoken is open-world, it really depends on the player when it comes to how long you want to spend in the world. Difficulty and adjustable in-game exchange frequency can also alter the time it takes you to complete Forspoken.

1. How many chapters are in Forspoken? How long are they?

Forspoken chapters

Forspoken consists of 13 chapters which can take anywhere from 30 to 120 minutes to complete. This discrepancy in time is due to some chapters focusing on narrative and some requiring lengthy traversal across the open world.

In addition to its 13 chapters, Forspoken also has 21 Detours or side missions, which can be skipped.

Here is a full list of the Forspoken chapters and side quests:

The game’s co-creator, Takeshi Terada, had prematurely announced that the main story of Forspoken would take a good 30-40 hours but that’s simply not the case.

If you rush through the 13 chapters without detouring, you can finish the game in 8 to 10 hours. If you want to enjoy the magical combat, parkour through the open world, and try out all Frey’s abilities, you’ll take 10 to 15 hours to mainline the campaign.

The main story plus side quests can also be sped through, ending your gameplay in 20 hours. But if you want to complete it at leisure it can take you 25-30 hours.

2. How long to complete 100% of Forspoken?

Forspoken 100%

If you’re looking to do a completionist run or 100% of Forspoken in the least time possible, it can be done in 30 hours. But visiting 100 locations, unlocking all equipment, and getting the platinum trophy can take you up to 60 hours – more, if you’re exploring the open world and participating in all the battles.

You can also reduce the dialogue exchange frequency between Frey and her companion Cuff via the accessibility menu.

There are also other options like Aim Assist and Spell-Switching Slowdown which, when enabled, will reduce the time you take to beat the game properly.

Unfortunately, in Forspoken, you don’t get any special rewards for fully completing a particularly region on the map. Checking every open-world box is optional, done only by true completionists.

3. How to complete 100% of Forspoken? Does Forspoken have an endgame?

Chapter 13 with its 7 side missions serve as the post game content for Forspoken. This chapter is unlocked after you beat the final boss. Here, you can finish all your missed missions, find remaining collectibles, and achieve the Platinum trophy.

Along with new Detours, the postgame will also unlock new Archive Entries and Gear, including nail designs, necklaces, and cloaks.

4. Does Forspoken have New Game Plus? What to do after finishing Forspoken?

Unfortunately, Forspoken doesn’t yet have a New Game Plus option, but the game has just released. In a future update, we can most likely expect NG+, especially since it is an open-world game.

There are whispers about a prequel DLC for Forspoken, but we will have to wait for the official announcement.

You can replay the game though, or just continue traversing Athia after the credits roll. You can also load a saved game to participate in new events and explore previously unexplored territories on the map.

I recommend doing this since Forspoken is easily one of the most stunning open worlds on PlayStation 5 and PC right now.

5. What is the best difficulty setting in Forspoken?

Forspoken difficulty

There are 4 difficulty levels in the Forspoken game: Focus on the Story, Explore the Open World, Take Part in Challenging Battles, and Default. The best setting is Default if you’re a player looking for a balance of all the gameplay features.

The Default setting will also ensure that you don’t take too long completing the game as opposed to the other. As you can expect, the Explore the Open World option will allow you to amble about the sprawling Athia landscapes. The Focus on the Story option will entirely remove distractions.

The Take Part in Challenging Battles setting is for advanced players looking for a challenge.

In the Gameplay Balance setting, you can also make things easier for yourself by decreasing Damage Received and increasing Stamina and Speed. Additionally, you can find Auto-Evasion, Auto Spell Switching, and Auto Use Healing Items options.

6. How long is the Forspoken demo?

In case you want to complete the Forspoken demo before you purchase the game, you’re probably wondering how long completing it will take you.

The Forspoken demo can be beaten in 20 minutes flat. There are only 5 preset objectives, but if you really want to take your time, you can slow down a bit to explore and roam around; this will give you 1-2 hours of demo play.
