Hogwarts Legacy: Difficulty, Completion Time, Side Quests, and More!

If you wanted yet another trip into the magical world of Harry Potter, there’s a newly released game that’s going to give you an experience like no other! Hogwarts Legacy is an RPG that allows you to play as another “Chosen One” with special ancient powers and all-new enemies and challenges, set in 1899.

I’m sure you have a few general questions before starting the game or even as you’re freshly navigating through the first few chapters. The main one will be, how many hours does it take to finish Hogwarts Legacy?

It takes 30-35 hours to finish the main story/gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy, while it takes 80-85 hours to finish the game 100%, including all possible side quests, level-ups, and the epilogue.

For all your other questions, keep reading!

1. Hogwarts Legacy Difficulty

Although Hogwarts Legacy is a relatively simple RPG, it does have four difficult options. You can choose either one depending on the experience and gameplay level you’re seeking.

  • Story: Focuses mainly on the story, minimal gameplay and challenges.
  • Easy: Light gameplay, ideal for beginners or those who want to focus on the story but have more challenges than the first option.
  • Normal: Best option for seasoned gamers, as it covers the story and gameplay equally.
  • Hard: For pros looking for a more demanding gameplay, de-prioritizing the story experience.

2. How long will it take to complete Hogwarts Legacy’s main game?

Hogwarts Legacy

It will take players 30 to 35 hours to finish Hogwarts Legacy’s main game narrative and “complete” the game. This includes all the main arcs but excludes the exhaustive list of side quests.

Hogwarts Legacy is pretty much straightforward, which will make players feel like they’re coursing through a book/film with their choices having an outcome in the narrative.

While there are puzzles and games that are mandatorily required to level up or move on to the next chapter, players will find that most of them are doable. There are only a few puzzles that will take up a lot of your time. Because of this, Hogwarts Legacy can be completed relatively quickly.

3. How long will it take to 100% complete Hogwarts Legacy?

It will take players 80 to 85 hours to complete the full Hogwarts Legacy game,  100% from start to finish. This includes all the main arcs, side quests, collectibles, attaining the highest level-up possible as well as the epilogue.

Hogwarts Legacy is a truly immersive experience, so even if you finish the main narrative, we recommend you go back and try to tick off all the side quests on the list. Not only will you be able to level up and collect amazing items (which could come in use for future sequels), but it also lets you experience the story in its entirety.

Plus, bragging rights!

4. Does your House choice result in different quests?

Depending on which House you get sorted into, you will have a unique quest to fulfill. Besides this, for the majority of the gameplay, Hogwarts Legacy will be the same irrespective of the Hogwarts House you select.

So while you’ll have the same narrative experience irrespective of which House you are in, you should be mindful of the House-specific quests.

The main theme of these quests involve a character named Richard Jackdaw, whose life at Hogwarts over a century ago will provide you some insight.

  • Gryffindor-Specific Quest: The Hunt for the Missing Papers
  • Slytherin-Specific Quest: Scrope’s Last Hope
  • Ravenclaw-Specific Quest: Ollivander’s Heirloom
  • Hufflepuff-Specific Quest: Prisoner of Love

You won’t have access to the other quests, but you can certainly change your House or replay the game and get sorted into a new House to experience all four quests.

It’s also fine if you don’t try to re-play the other House’s quests as they’re not mandatory for the main gameplay. But it’s still fun to give it a shot!
