The Banshee World Event Mystery Walkthrough ǀ Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

The Banshee is a world event and mystery in the Essexe region of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In this quest, Eivor must help the “Grieving Man,” who is distraught over the loss of his loved one. This creepy side quest is extremely short, but it is incredibly confusing as the game gives no clues or markers to solve this mystery. This world event is also terribly buggy which further adds to the confusion and makes it problematic.

Where to find the grieving man in AC Valhalla?

The grieving man is inside an old broken stone structure near the southern edge of Essexe, just east of Wulfaswic and west of Maeldun.

Head to the location, and you will hear the painful rambling of the “grieving man” from far away. Approach the large stone building in this location, and find him sitting on the right side of the building’s entrance.

Interact with him, but he won’t talk back to you, leaving you clueless on what to do next or how to help him? It turns out that the grieving man is being haunted by the wailing/voices of his dead wife.

How can I help the grieving man in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

Break the wooden planks on the southern wall of the stone structure, then kill the hostile grieving man to “help him” and complete the Banshee world event in AC Valhalla.

When you look up in the southern direction inside the stone building, you will find a set of wooden planks blocking a gap in the wall. When the wind passes through these planks, it creates a wailing noise. Use your bow and arrow to break these planks.

Break the Planks

This act will stop the wailing noises, but it will turn the grieving man hostile towards you, as he claims that you have taken the voices of his dead wife away from him. Kill the grieving man and loot his body to collect the Mad Ramblings note.

Kill the Grieving Man

The note will reveal that the grieving man killed his wife for supposedly plotting against him and, as a result, had gone mad with guilt. Reading this note will conclude the world event. Unfortunately, there is no way to save the grieving man in this quest.

How to deal with the bugs in The Banshee world event?

Many players have reported a bug in The Banshee world event that prevents them from interacting with the grieving man. Follow one of the steps mentioned below to fix this bug:

  1. Interact with the grieving man after the following day/night. Change in the day cycle may allow players to interact with him, or
  1. Break the wooden planks on the wall without interacting with the grieving man. This act will skip the interaction section and turn him hostile immediately. You can then kill the man and complete the world event.
