How to Defeat The Hateful – God of War Ragnarok

There are a ton of different bosses and mini-bosses in God of War Ragnarok. One such mini-boss is a powerful Draugr boss called The Hateful. You are required to defeat this boss six times as a part of the ‘Born From Fire’ Favour and each fight is harder than the last.

The Hateful is present inside a Draugr Hole found all around the Nine Realms. This guide will help you to beat The Hateful in God of War Ragnarok. Since this is a recurring optional mini-boss, the strategy to defeat this boss will remain the same.

How to defeat The Hateful in God of War Ragnarok?

I. Defeat The Minions First

The Hateful Minions – God of War Ragnarok

While fighting The Hateful in God of War Ragnarok, it summons a number of non-super-powered Draugrs to help in battle. You should focus on defeating these minions as soon as possible since they become more annoying the longer they’re alive.

The minions try to divert your focus from The Hateful to themselves in order for The Hateful to attack you. Defeat the minions first in order to focus on The Hateful properly, without any distractions.

II. Parry Incoming Projectiles

Parrying incoming projectiles makes The Hateful vulnerable for a short period of time. During your fight, The Hateful will throw multiple flame projectiles towards you. Deflect these projectiles to make The Hateful vulnerable for some time.

When you parry The Hateful’s flame projectiles, it’ll give you an opening to attack. Equip your Leviathan Axe to deal some decent damage to it. The Blades of Chaos wouldn’t deal as much damage as The Hateful is an undead creature made from fire.

III. Avoid Attacks Which Have Red Indicators

Avoid Attacks With Red Indicators

Whenever The Hateful is about to deliver an attack that has a red circle around it, it means that the attack is unblockable. Dodge away as fast as you can. The Hateful loves spamming unblockable attacks, so keep an eye out for the red indicators indicating an incoming attack that cannot be blocked.

If you are unable to dodge the unblockable attack, then Kratos will suffer from burn damage. Most of The Hateful’s attacks inflict burn damage on Kratos and send him flying back, so it is absolutely necessary to dodge unblockable attacks.

Rewards: By defeating The Hateful, you obtain x310 Kratos XP, x93 Atreus XP, x1 Chaos Spark, x2 Sovereign Coals, x5 Dust of Realms, and Hacksilver. You can combine six of these Chaos Sparks to form a Chaos Flame which is used to upgrade The Blades of Chaos.

Hopefully with this guide, The Hateful will be a bit easier for you. Make sure you have your gear upgraded before encountering The Hateful. It may take a few tries for you but you will defeat him in the end.
