Draining the Mine – Deep Trouble Quest Guide – Horizon Forbidden West

Deep Trouble is one of the initial sidequests players are supposed to complete in The Daunt. They can receive the quest from Arnuf in Chainscape or Korvud by the Crimson Narrows Quarry.

After reaching The Daunt, Aloy navigates to the northwest of the lift landing and locates the Crimson Narrows Quarry. In that area, she encounters injured mineworkers and sees a mine entrance emitting smoke. Upon conversing with the miners, Aloy gets to know that the mine has collapsed, and they just managed to escape.

The mine leader, Korvud, informs you that two men are still trapped in the mine. Subsequently, Aloy decides to save them.

Once you find the missing miners and initiate an evacuation, the whole area will start getting filled with water. As a result, players will have to drain the mine.

You can drain the mine in the Deep Trouble quest of Elden Ring by clearing the path filled with rubble. Consequently, you can do so by finding a minecart, filling it with explosives, and pushing it into the wreckage. Thorden will provide you with the explosives.

Here’s a descriptive guide to draining the min in the Deep Trouble quest in Forbidden West!

Thorden will tell you that the cave entrance collapsed due to the explosives used during mining, so the whole area is flooded. Hence, they’ve no way to escape. However, you can help by clearing the rubble using a minecart and fuses.

From Thorden’s perspective, players need to go left, dive into the water and swim through it to get to the cave-in and minecart. You’ll typically find the minecart on the tracks.

Next, you’ll have to find a few caches. Find a short ladder underneath the minecart, climb up and jump over the four beams on the left.

Then, you’ve to crouch through the tunnel and enter a massive cavern. Underneath the tunnel, you’ll notice three Burrowers who you can fight or avoid. You can also use the purple mushroom to offer a smoke cover and reach the far end of the cavern.

Upon making it to the far end, progress left, drop down and push the ladder in front of you. Now you’ll probably notice a wooden crane.

For the penultimate step, use the Pullcaster to pull the crane towards yourself and grab onto the yellow lines by jumping. Climb onto it and move ahead to jump over a gap to hold onto the track. Progress right towards the minecart, and remember to pick up a few caches on your path.

Lastly, players need to plant the fuses into the minecart and push it over the edge.

Note: Burrowers are vulnerable to Fire damage and standard arrow and melee hits. Additionally, it’s advisable to maintain a distance from their Shun ability.

You can find the missing miners during the Deep Trouble quest by entering the mine and heading left. Upon swimming through under the debris, you’ll reach a tunnel entrance that’ll lead you to the missing miners.

Once you’ve made through the debris, you’ll reach a large cave. On the left of the cave is a cache and in front of it and on the right are two tunnel entrances.

It’s advisable to avoid the cache and choose any tunnel entrance as either of them will take you to the miners.

Once you’ve drained the mine, you’ll have to continue evacuation by making your way of the cavern. Nonetheless, three Scroungers will appear to obstruct your path.

Luckily, like the Burrowers, the Scroungers are a relatively weaker group of enemies. They are powerless against Acid and Frost damage. Besides, arrow and melee blows will keep them at bay.

Most importantly, you’ve to stay beware of their Shock attack, which can stun you. Also, it would be best if you avoided the Bite attack by maintaining a safe distance.

Escape the Mine

To escape the mine after killing the Scroungers, you’ve to progress towards the wall on the left and use the Pullcaster to pull the crates. Then, you can go through the opening and head back to Thorden.

The miners and Thorden can leave once the water has drained. You can open all the remaining caches on your way out. Moreover, the Pullcaster can come in handy while grabbing the big cache on the ledge.

After successful evacuation, go and talk to Korvud as he’ll be happy to know about the safety of all the miners.
