Genshin Impact is not an MMO, but rather it is a JRPG, but that does not mean that players can play the game in offline mode easily. Even though Genshin Impact has a separate online mode, the rest of the game needs an internet connection.
Developed by miHoYo, Genshin Impact offers a massive JRPG experience, which, for the most part, feels inspired by Zelda: BotW. Players should be aware that this is not an MMO by any means, and the game mechanisms validate that too.
From the initial betas to the actual release, Genshin Impact received overwhelming support from both critics and players for both the PC and PS4 versions, but the fate of the single-player mode was still left unknown.
Even though Genshin Impact is not an MMO, players need an Internet connection to play the game. Thus, the always-on net connection is a must when playing Genshin Impact on PC, PS4, iOS, and Android.
The online connectivity does not bode well for players looking for an offline JRPG, but do players need to be connected even when they do not use the multiplayer activities?
1. Is Genshin Impact Online Only?
Since the game is marketed as a JRPG, most players assume that the game has an offline mode even though there are multiplayer modes in the game.
Genshin Impact can not be played offline. It is online-only, and this also applies when you are not using the multiplayer game elements.
Even in the upcoming Nintendo Switch version, it might not be possible to play without an active internet connection, and players will have to stay connected.
2. Why is Internet Required in Single Player Mode?
The always-online requirement of Genshin Impact is because the gameplay relies heavily on microtransactions and the game’s premium store.
Players will need to be connected to carry out transactions to and from the store to access rare items and collectibles. All the transactions are routed through the servers to avoid hacking.
3. Offline Mode Coming Soon to Genshin Impact?
The developers have not announced any plans to release an offline-only mode in any foreseeable future, so players are advised not to look out for the same.
The lack of future offline-mode is probably because to counter hackers in the game, as players could modify save files if no online checks were present.
4. Genshin Impact On Xbox Release Date
Currently, miHoYo has no plans to bring Genshin Impact to Xbox Consoles, but given the game is free to play on all other platforms, there might be high chances of a future release.
Current players shouldn’t wait around for an Xbox release because it will take months to hit the Microsoft Store even if one is announced. For now, Genshin Impact is available on PS4, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android, and soon, for Nintendo Switch.
