Intel’s ‘Alder Lake’ Core i9-12900K Sample Reaches Turbo of 5.3GHz

Intel’s ‘Alder Lake’ chip has been the talk of PC hardware town for a while now, with new information sending the community into a tizzy every time. Finally, we have some fresh leaks again, and, if true, the ‘Alder Lake’ chip is gearing up to be a very powerful processor.

The latest leaks suggest that the flagship 12th Gen ‘Alder Lake-S’ Core i9-12900K has a base speed of 3.9GHz, which can be turbo boosted to 5.3GHz. This is because these 12th Gen Intel processors will be taking advantage of the company’s Hybrid Technology, which packages big cores along with small cores.

Both types of cores will have the same instruction sets and model-specific registers but will feature different computational powers and overheads. We will be getting big cores that have higher throughput and higher clock speeds and small cores that are going to be very power efficient. The flagship core i9-12900K is going to boast 8 big cores and 8 small cores. While the turbo clock speed of 5.3GHz is impressive, it does fall short of the rumored 5.5GHz.

First discovered on an NGA.cn post by 9950pro, a user claims to have information on a Qualification Sample, along with the Cinebench R20 multi-core test score of an engineering sample of the i9-12900K, Core i7-12700K, and the Core i5-12600K. The results for these tests are,

  • Core i9-12900K (ES2): 9300+
  • Core i9-12900K (QS calculated): 11300+
  • Core i7-12700K (QS): 9500+
  • Core i5-12600K (QS): 7400+

The Core i9-12900K with a score of 11300+ outperforms the AMD Ryzen 5950X (10400 points) by over 900 points. The score of the 12900K was calculated by using a higher turbo clock than the engineering sample.

A previous leak from Yuuki_AnS found out all the current bugs on the mobile Alder Lake Engineering Samples and also confirmed that Windows 11 would be required for the processor to benefit from Intel’s Hybrid Technology.

Intel’s Alder Lake processors are expected to launch in the 4th quarter of 2022 and will feature DDR5 memory and support the PCIe Gen5 standard.
