Intel has confirmed that the 14th Gen Core is based on Meteor Lake, which was expected. The leaked documents didn’t really give us a clear idea on how Intel will name its consumer CPU products. But the newly shared data might describe what will happen with the Core series soon.
A new chart for OpenVPL (Video Processing Library) hardware support listed “Future: 14th Generation Intel Core ” series as MTL/Meteor Lake.
While there’s no mention of the upcoming refresh of Raptor Lake, this codename is only connected to the 13th Gen Core series. What this means is that the 14th Gen Series might no longer be associated with Raptor Lake Refresh, unless some rebranding happens later down the line.
Intel’s future consumer desktop Core series will most likely adopt similar product naming. Although, the leaked roadmap had no mention or direct plans for mobile series.
The existing 700-series platform will be untouched, which means that Intel will have two generations and one refresh for its already existing LGA1700 platform.
After taking the roadmap into consideration, we came to the conclusion that the Intel Raptor Lake-S Refresh should launch in the third quarter of this year. Meteor Lake for desktop, on the other hand, will not appear anytime soon.
