Intel Launches Alder Lake-PS Series; Featuring Windows IoT Support

Intel’s newly launched series is based on Intel’s 7 process technology and designed for Internet of Things with exceptional video graphics density. 

Intel launched the 12th Gen Core Alder Lake-PS series designed for retail, banking, hospitality, healthcare and education.

The low-power CPUs feature up to 14 cores and 20 threads with the mobile chip on a soldered BGA package with a low z-height. The CPUs support Windows IoT enterprise and display virtualization for cost-effective video kiosks.   

Here are some of the Alder Lake-PS features: 

  • Up to four concurrent 4K60 HDR displays or one 8K display​ 
  • Up to 8K HDR support and enhanced media support (12-bit) 
  • Pipelock video synchronization for Windows 
  • Graphics and display virtualization 
  • Up to 96 graphics Execution Units to support AI workload parallelization 
  • Intel® Deep Learning Boost (Intel® DL Boost) and Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit 
  • Up to eight PCIe 4.0 lanes (2×4) plus four Thunderbolt™ 4 lanes for fast data transfers and more connectivity 
  • Up to DDR5-4800 and up to DDR4-3200 memory 
  • Support for the Intel® oneAPI IoT Toolkit and the Intel® oneAPI Base Toolkit

Intel launched a total of 11 new processors. The five new HL-series CPUs feature 8 to 14 cores with either DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 memory and operate at a default TDP range of 45W-60W.  

The new 12th Gen UL series features up to 10 cores and 12 threads for the top variant. The default TDP is merely 15W. The specs imply only two Performance cores are enabled on these mobile processors.
