Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs are set to launch in second half of 2023

Intel recently posted their Q1 figures for 2023. They reported a total of USD 11.7 billion in non-GAAP revenue and it was understood that the number exceeded expectations.

It must be remembered that they suffered their most significant GAAP loss on record. This was mainly attributed to Sapphire Rapid’s lower-than-expected demand and Microsoft’s significant reduction in SR orders due to weak server market demand.

Intel has reconfirmed its faith in the roadmap released earlier. They confirmed that they are on track for the upcoming product launches later this year.

The 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs, based on the Intel 4 process node, are being ramped up in production by Intel in preparation for a strong launch in the second half of 2023, followed by Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake in 2024. Intel also looks to gain in PC market share vs its competitors in the meantime.

The future chip families, ie, the Arrow Lake and the Lunar Lake, will be based on the 20A and 18A process nodes on launch in 2024.

Intel had earlier reported that the Meteor Lake would feature a new tiled architecture, going to the chiplet form. The four main tiles are the IO, SoC, GFX, and the Compute Tile.

The Compute Tile consists of the CPU and the GFX tiles. The CPU tile comprises the new hybrid core design of Redwood Cove P-Cores and Crestmost E-cores.

This means the CPU would have a higher peak performance at a lower voltage. The new tiled-GPU architecture would also mean that the Meteor Lake CPUs would get twice the GPU performance boost.

This new arrangement of the CPU on the chiplet is unheard of and will give unprecedented performance boost as it is neither an iGPU nor a dGPU.

The Meteor Lake will utilize the brand new Xe-HPG graphics architecture with the same efficiency for power as iGPUs. It will be equipped with DirectX 12 support and XeSS, exclusive to the Alchemist.

The roadmap looks pretty solid, and despite the significant losses posted by Intel earlier, they can sure make up for it in the third quarter or later with the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs.
