Are we ever going to get a PC port of God of War Ragnarok?

God of War Ragnarok is going to soon be upon us, and having witnessed its enthralling, gameplay-filled trailers, I think we can all agree that this game is going to be a remarkably exceptional experience.

The game’s all set to bring an end to the Norse Saga (possibly to the story of Kratos and Atreus as well) that started with the previous installment, which is why players are so excited to get their hands on it.

However, there’s a particular question that many people have on their minds at the moment. So, God of War (2018) recently received an absolutely fantastic PC port, right? But is Ragnarok going to receive a similar treatment too? Or is it going to remain a PS5 exclusive?

As of writing, there is no confirmation as to whether or not God of War Ragnarok would arrive on PC. Similar to other upcoming PlayStation titles, it’s supposed to release only on the PS5 for now. However, there’s a high chance that the game will arrive on the PC in the distant future.

So, I have a couple of reasons to back up that statement.

Firstly, in some recent interviews with the devs of God of War (especially Cory Barlog, the creative director), they stated how Sony doesn’t really have a proper strategy when porting their games to other platforms. Essentially, they go on a game-to-game basis when it comes to all this stuff.

Secondly, if we look at Sony’s previous track record, they have ported some of their biggest games to PC already, such as Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and of course, God of War. So considering that, I think it’s safe to say that sooner or later, we will receive a PC port for God of War Ragnarok as well.

With that said, though, the game is most certainly going to remain a PS5 exclusive for a while. How long this exclusivity will last, I don’t know, but it would surely not be permanent.

There’s also the more conspiracy theory side of things that I haven’t mentioned till now, mostly because I don’t trust that myself.

So, Jetpack Interactive is the studio that worked on porting God of War (2018) over to PC. The studio’s tool and systems programmer, Warren Lee, had actually stated on his Linkedin profile that he’s a part of the development of God of War Ragnarok some time back.

Now, this can mean a couple of things – let me go over them.

Lee may have made a continuance error when filling out his experience on Linkedin. After all, it’s easy to type out God of War Ragnarok instead of simply God of War, with its popularity on the internet right now.

If not that – this could mean that Jetpack is already developing a port for God of War Ragnarok (God bless that man if this is indeed the case). However, I’ll be super honest – it seems highly unlikely that a PC port for the sequel is already in development, especially considering how it doesn’t even have a release date yet.

Lastly, there have been rumors making rounds on the internet that a port of Bloodborne is already complete and ready to go up for sale but is being intentionally held by Sony for some unknown reasons.

So, here’s my question for you, what if a PC port of God of War Ragnarok IS being developed in advance? We won’t be getting it anytime soon – that’s for sure, but even knowing that it’s going to come out soon would be a huge sigh of relief for all the GoW fans on PC.

Either way, though, let’s await all future announcements from Sony, especially for the release date for Kratos and Atreus’ next odyssey – for all we know, the game could be releasing much sooner than we anticipate.

About God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on November 9, 2022, for PS4 and PS5.

Ragnarok is the ninth installment in the God of War series, chronologically, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Norway and features series protagonists Kratos and his young son Atreus. The events of the game are expected to initiate Ragnarok – a series of events that, according to Norse lore, bring about the end of days and the death of the Norse gods.
