Microsoft Could Reportedly Add Game Demos to Xbox Game Pass

Back in the day, demos were widely used by publishers to promote their upcoming IPs. Demo disks arrived with the subscriptions of gaming magazines and gave us a sneak peek into the gameplay along with trailers and bonuses. However, this tradition kicked the bucket with the ripples in time.

While game demos aren’t entirely out of the picture, they indeed aren’t as prevailing as they used to be. But now, there’s a chance that we might witness a change in trends because, according to an unconfirmed report, Microsoft is set on turning back the hands of time.

It is said that Microsoft is planning on adding game demos to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service to let players get the sense of a title within a limited session. If these leaks are true, then the tech giants will announce the demo program several hours before or during the Summer Game Fest on Thursday, June 9.

The reports claim that the new feature will launch next year and emphasize the work of indie developers. The studios participating in this program will also allegedly receive additional support and compensation from Microsoft.

With Sony’s revamped PS Plus offering time-limited game trials, it was clear that Microsoft had to do something to prevent the Japanese tech giants from boasting about even a single selling point that Game Pass lacks.

Given that Sony is playing catch up when it comes to subscription services, Microsoft will hope for the demo feature to help them stay ahead of Sony in this competitive race.

Now coming to the tittle-tattle again, it is also believed that Microsoft will announce the expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming to make it available in more countries and shed light on the details for the rumored Xbox app for Samsung TVs before the Game Fest broadcast.

Given that these rumors are unconfirmed, everything you read should be taken with a pinch of salt. Thankfully, we won’t have to fiddle our thumbs and mull over how genuine this information is for long as the Summer Game Fest is just 24 hours away.
