ASUS & MSI’s Leaked X670 Motherboard Listings Reveal Absurd Prices, Are they Even Worth It?

AMD’s AM5 platform-based 600-series motherboards are set to arrive just after the launch of their upcoming Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 CPUs. The motherboards provide some upgrades over their predecessors, as AMD specified at the time of unveiling in May.

The only thing left to be known was the prices that these chipsets would be available for, and while earlier leaks suggested that the next-gen motherboards would be on the cheaper side, it doesn’t seem so.

Momomo_us spotted Asus’ motherboard listing of X670 chipsets ranging from ridiculous prices of $412 for the most affordable one to the wild $1260 tag of ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme.

The listing was spotted on a German site but has since been taken down, hinting that these prices might actually be spot-on. However, these are preliminary prices, and even though they were correct, ASUS could still change them.

The listing included nine motherboards-

  • ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme – 1475 Euros ($1500 US)
  • ROG Crosshair X670E HERO – 1088 Euros ($1106 US)
  • ROG Crosshair X670E GENE – 977 Euros ($994 US)
  • ROG STRIX X670E-E Gaming WiFi – 912 Euros ($927 US)
  • ROG STRIX X670E-F Gaming WiFi – 809 Euros ($823 US)
  • ROG STRIX X670E-A Gaming WiFi – 783 Euros ($796 US)
  • PROART X670E-Creator WiFi – 894 Euros ($909 US)
  • PRIME X670-P WiFi – 510 Euros ($518 US)
  • PRIME X670-P – 483 Euros ($491 US)

Note that these prices include the 22% VAT in the European region, so the prices will be reduced for the US region. For example, the flagship ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme will actually be $1260, while the affordable(really?) PRIME X670-P will cost around $412.

These are very high prices for these motherboards compared to their predecessors, even though they might not be accurate. Considering that there is an entirely new platform(AM5), there was obviously going to be some increase in cost, but this large amount is indeed shocking.

Over $1000 just for a motherboard is way too expensive for most of us, but there will inevitably be some buyers. I guess the X670E featuring “Extreme Overclocking” is matched with “Extreme Pricing.”

MSI’s X670 Motherboards are Cheaper than ASUS, but still Costlier

ASUS is not the only motherboard manufacturer to get its pricing leaked. The same hardware leaker has also spotted MSI’s 600-series chipsets once again in the EU region, Italian retailers to be specific.

Six of MSI’s X670 Motherboard variants have been spotted, with relatively more forgiving prices ranging from $316 for MSI PRO X670-P WiFi to $540 for MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi.

These are certainly much higher prices than the X570 predecessors and also more expensive than the Z690 offerings of the same tier. But if you compare these to ASUS’ prices, you’ll find MSI being on the cheaper side by a lot.

So, this adds confusion as to why is there a price difference between manufacturers, it could be that ASUS is offering a lot in its flagship variant. However, it still doesn’t explain the $100 difference in their cheapest variants. We’ll just have to wait for official prices, so this smoke clears up.

AMD has supposedly delayed the Ryzen 7000 launch by two weeks. Still, the next-gen processors, along with these next-gen motherboards, are going to be announced on August 29th in AMD’s live-stream event.
