We’ve been hearing a lot about Call of Duty: Vanguard over the past few days, especially with the latest beta that was made available for PlayStation users who pre-ordered the game. One thing we knew was coming but did not hear much about was the Zombies mode. Well, that’s changed with the most recent leak, which has revealed the map name and a potential release date.
Fans have been optimistic about this mode for a while, given that Treyarch was named as the developer for this mode. But those good vibes may not last long as it seems like Vanguard’s Zombies will not feature a round-based map at launch.
This is a new direction for Treyarch, as the developer has always launched the mode with at least one round-based map. But holding off the Zombies mode is not a first, as the same had happened to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, a title that didn’t get Zombies until DLC 1. For Vanguard Zombies fans, the Season 1 launch will be quite an important update.
Players will be able to access Season 1 content from November 23rd, and, according to reputable leaker @TheMW2Ghost, this will also be the launch of the first Survival map. Titled “War of the Dead,” this leaked map follows the naming tradition of previous maps such as Call of the Dead and Mob of the Dead.
The title also hints that the rumors circulating around this mode are accurate and that Nazis will attempt to use zombies to win World War 2.
But the real matter of interest and shock for fans is that this map will not be available at launch.
Most leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but Call of Duty fans have a reason to have some faith in this particular one as @TheMW2Ghost has been a pretty reputable leaker so far. While the delayed map is interesting, fans will have something to do on the first day of the launch as the leaker has stated that there will be some kind of content on day one.
This new content is not specified, but most likely will be a new game mode, and the most likely candidate is Outbreak.
This is also speculation, but Outbreak’s popularity in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War would make an appropriate choice to fill the gap of a Survival map on launch day. Treyarch’s support for Outbreak in Cold War also hints at the mode playing a vital role in the future of Zombies.
It’ll be fun to see how Outbreak will change and evolve if it does return or if the devs will find a new way to keep fans busy until the Season 1 launch. But all those expecting a new map at launch should temper their expectations.
