Flight Simulator: Top Gun Maverick DLC Delayed to Coincide with Movie

All the fans who were excited to spread their symbolic wings with the legendary Tom Cruise in Microsoft Flight Simulator’s new DLC gather up; I have some bad news for you!

Initially slated for this year’s November 19 release, Paramount Pictures has postponed the launch of Top Gun: Maverick to May 27, 2022, as COVID-19 cases witness a surge in the US.

Consequently, Microsoft Flight Simulator, too, has delayed its Top Gun-themed DLC to coincide with the movie’s new release date.

Microsoft did the unpredictable by announcing a free Top Gun-themed expansion for its highly popular Flight Simulator during this year’s E3

Called Top Gun: Maverick, this DLC was confirmed to be a promotional tie-in with Paramount’s upcoming movie of the same name starring Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly.

The film was all set to hit the markets this Holiday Season, but the pandemic had other plans.

The sudden spike of COVID-19 cases and the delta variant meant that fewer people would turn their attention to the theatres. Hence, it was decided that for a better reach and high profitability, Top Gun: Maverick should be delayed.

Given that this relationship between Paramount and Microsoft exists to promote the movie, it makes zero sense for the DLC to drop while the movie’s facing postponement.

In a brief announcement, Microsoft Flight Simulator said

Paramount Pictures recently shifted the release date of Top Gun: Maverick to Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2022. As we have previously announced, the Top Gun: Maverick expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 10 PC, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass will be released alongside the movie. We look forward to sharing more information in the future.

Moreover, the nature of this much-anticipated crossover isn’t known to us. All we know is that the expansion promises to deliver an experience that makes one feel “what it’s like to be a US Navy Top Gun.”
