No More Mortal Kombat 11 DLCs, Devs Moving onto New Project

Mortal Kombat has been one of the longest-standing fighting franchises in gaming history. With graphics getting better and Fatalities more….fatal, there’s always new content being added to the games.

The latest, Mortal Kombat 11, has received a fair number of DLCs, but now NetherRealm Studios has announced that they will be ending content support for the game and moving onto a new project.

Mortal Kombat 11 got 12 new post-release characters, including favorites such as Shang Tsung, Sindel, and Fujin.

There were also characters added from other franchises such as Robocop, The Terminator, Rambo, and Ash Williams.

Unfortunately, this recent announcement from the studio means that we won’t be seeing any more new characters being added to the roster from here on out.

We don’t have any official news about what NetherRealms is working on next, but based on the studios’ release history, it may be Injustice 3. There have also been rumors floating around that the studio may be working on a Marvel fighting game.

Credible leaker Daniel Richtman first broke this rumor, and then fans theorized it might be a Marvel vs. DC fighting game.

If the studio can handle the IP copyright issues, a Marvel vs. DC game branching out from the Injustice series doesn’t seem too much of a stretch. The studio has already added crossover characters to both titles and even has a Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe game.

Even though we don’t have any official confirmation on the next project, Ed Boon, the boss at NetherRealms, decided to mess with fans on Twitter.

He retweeted James Gunn’s screenshot of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 logo and remarked about how he has worked on both Marvel and DC movies. We’ll have to wait and see if this is just Ed Boon messing around or a bit of foreshadowing of what’s to come.

About Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 is a 2.5D fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Alongside the return of previous gameplay mechanics, the game features a fantastic story, improved graphics, and an even better netcode than previous games, to which it was well-received. However, it fell under heavy criticism for having microtransactions and forcing grind upon players.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
