New Planes & Helicopters Coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator Revealed

Microsoft Flight Simulator has become one of the most technological and visually impressive games, and that is due to the constant work being done by Asobo Studio. They are now at it again as they have shared an in-depth look at what is coming to the game in Q1 of 2022, and the company is bringing new historical planes and further world updates.

The most significant part of these development updates held by the team are the Q&A sessions, the summary of which is available on the game’s official website. A large part of the session was them iterating on their plans for the official introduction of helicopters into the game, along with the other content releases happening over the next couple of months.

Sadly, helicopters won’t be coming to the game anytime soon and have a slated release window of Fall 2022. In the Q&A, it was stated that the game’s engine was not outright designed keeping helicopters in mind, which meant a lot of testing was required on Asobo’s end for improved air simulation physics before progress could be made.

Helicopter mods are available currently, but they tend to brute force the physics engine instead of working in tandem with it, which is not an ideal scenario.

The second big reveal was the next Microsoft Flight Simulator world update. World Update 7 features an in-depth expansion and detailing of the Australian continent and will launch on January 31st.

World Update is set for a March release and will bring in some sort of expansion for the Iberian Peninsula. As the baseline information for all locations is pulled from satellite imagery via Bing Search, many areas need to be manually tweaked.

With regards to the new crafts players will be able to fly, Asobo is taking a trip down memory lane. The game will be getting two historically significant planes in Q1 2022: the Fokker FVII will be added with World Update 7, and the Antonov AN-2 will be launching on March 1st.

The studio has also confirmed that there will be a third legendary plane coming in late March, maybe with World Update 8, but no information of a specific release date has been provided.
