MSI’s BETA X570 BIOS Enables Tweaks for AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU

Released in April 2022, AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D was referred to as the best CPU for gamers. An extremely fast gaming CPU also being the first to use 3D V-cache technology had its own share of pros and cons.

Referred by AMD as “The World’s Fastest PC Gaming Processor”, the CPU’s major disadvantages were that it couldn’t be tweaked or overclocked. It was already clear before the new processors were launched that they could not be overclocked using a multiplier, voltage regulation was not enabled and PBO could not be used either.

AMD itself suggested to users that the CPU should not be overclocked. Although partial overclocking and undervolting were enabled by some motherboards, these motherboards were expensive.

Though now it appears that there might be some relief for overclocking enthusiasts. According to an MSI Discussion Board Member Svet,
A new BETA BIOS has been released for the MEG X570 Unify motherboard which adds additional tweaking features for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU including Vcore offset, Precision Boost, and Curve Optimizer.

Performance figures show up to a 5% boost in multi-core performance bringing it closer to Ryzen 7 5800X as the 5800X had a higher clock speed than the 5800X3D to accommodate the 3D V-cache technology. However single-core performance shows a change of less than one per cent, which is pretty insignificant even though the BIOS is in BETA.

If you were looking for alternate ways to overclock your AMD CPU, you might not have to wait long as it seems that AMD is going to release more optimized BIOS with the identical tier of options for many who need to overclock or fine-tune their chips.

Meanwhile, you can also take a peek at the upcoming AM5 motherboard and chipset series if you were looking to upgrade your PC, which will in fact support overclocking especially the X670E where E stands for ‘extreme overclocking’.

It is still unknown when MSI will go public with this BETA ‘if’ it goes public, AMD has stated in the past that they don’t recommend tuning the settings of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

But there might be some hope as AMD is still not done with AM4 motherboards and hence the BETA BIOS might even be experimented with more motherboards before arriving in our hands.
