God of War PS5 Does Not Have an Official Name or Logo Yet!

Sony had teased the new installment in the God of War franchise back in their PlayStation 5 showcase in September 2020. The tagline shown during the teaser trailer read “Ragnarok is coming”, and while many referred to it as “God of War: Ragnarok”, Sony Santa Monica never confirmed on the name. Now, rumors have been going around that a recent IR filings report has confirmed the title and also shown a new logo. While this may be exciting, unfortunately, it’s not official.

God of War: Ragnarok - Teaser Trailer | PS5 Showcase

Sony’s IR report shows on Slide 9 that God of War has been listed in the “Best Ever Post Launch Line-Up” category on “Why We Believe in PS5”. The slide shows a host of new games coming to the system and why Sony is sure that the console and the line-up are a recipe for success. While we knew that a new God of War was in the works already, a fan seems to have taken this slide and created a new logo for the game, featuring the subheadline as “Ragnarok”.

This excited many people, as they felt that if Sony has confirmed the name, the game can’t be too far off. Unfortunately, the actual IR report slide shows it listed as just “God of War”. Neither Sony nor Cory Balrog, Game Director of God of War 2018, confirmed this news about the new logo.

In fact, Cory tweeted a reaction GIF that conveyed frustration and annoyance. He didn’t give any context for the tweet, but now it’s pretty clear what he meant.

We still don’t know much about the next God of War game, other than the fact that it will pick up from the events of the last game. There are rumors that, while Kratos will remain the main character, Atreus may be playable as well.

We expect to see a lot of deicide in this game, as in the last scene of God of War 2018, we saw Thor appearing before Kratos and Atreus. Will we get to fight Odin as well? Only time will tell.

About God of War

Set after the events of 2018’s God of War, God of War: Ragnarok is the next chapter in the story. A teaser trailer has been announced for the game, but not much else. The title suggests that we are going to witness the fall of the Norse pantheon of gods, as Ragnarok is the death of everything in Norse mythology. Kratos and Atreus will be making a return and facing off against several of the Norse gods as they fight to create a place for themselves within the world.
