Mistlands Biome and New Mountain Caverns Coming to Valheim Soon

The Hearth and Home expansion brought a lot of content and changes to the world of Valheim. With that significant chunk of DLC out of the way, Iron Gate Studios is now focusing on another piece of content for their Viking co-op survival game. The devs are looking to add an entirely new biome to the game and other comparatively smaller additions.

The next biome coming to Valheim are the Mistlands. Currently, the game has five biomes, and the Mistlands would be the sixth of the nine planned. We now have a tease regarding this addition by way of a single screenshot.

The Mistlands do sort of exist in Valheim currently, but it’s unfinished. If you explore the world enough, you’ll stumble upon a small, spooky, heavily webbed zone filled with looming dead trees and skeletal remains. Given Iron Gate Studios will expand on this design, the month of Halloween is a good time to tease fans for such an addition.

However, the new screenshot shows some green grass and wet rocks instead of the large webs and dead trees that have been the norm thus far. It’s clear that Iron Gate is still playing around with what kind of distinctive vibe they should give the Mistlands.

The landscape will likely change quite a bit before we figure out just exactly what the Mistlands will look like.

The smaller update planned for Valheim is for the Mountains biome. While the mountains are majestic and a good change of pace from the other biomes, they don’t offer much in terms of things to do. Players will find some wolves, ruined bits of castles, silver mines, and Valheim’s fourth boss, Moder, when exploring the peaks. The studio is looking to add a little more excitement to the mountains, and two pieces of concept art show how.

It seems that we will be getting some caverns, caves, and other sorts of underground areas to explore in the Mountain biome. It’ll be interesting to see what the developers use these caverns for; hopefully, they won’t be just empty pathways. One of the images shared shows a statue or shrine in a cave, so maybe we’ll get to learn more about the lore and the land of Valheim. The caves may also tie into the Cult of the Wolves update that focuses on “exploration and combat.”

No official word for the release of either, the Mistland update or the Mountain update has been provided. The delay of Hearth and Home from the original arrival date has shuffled all the subsequent planned updates further into the future. A Reddit AMA has been announced on the blog as well, so we may learn more then.
