PC Players of Elden Ring Can Now Download Game Update 1.02.3

FromSoftware has a reputation for its games on the PC platform. All of their previous games that make it onto PC have been filled with technical issues that later get patched out. Elden Ring is no different, and while the game is being patched, the updates also introduce new problems to the game.

The latest patch for the game, version 1.02.3, is now available, and it is intended for just PC players. The patch also has only one fix related to playing the game with a controller.

The patch notes of 1.02.3 show only one item. It states that the patch fixes a problem that made the game unable to connect to controllers under certain circumstances. The circumstances are not clarified, and no related issues have been divulged either, but hopefully, Elden Ring fans will now be able to use any controller they wish to play the game with.

These controller issues were reported quite a bit when Elden Ring launched. The game would not recognize a controller that had been connected and would not accept any inputs from the controllers either.

There were some unreliable reports that wireless controllers worked and wired ones didn’t, but the evidence showed that all types were having problems. Some fixes shared amongst the community included unplugging both the mouse and controller before starting the game, but they were not consistent from player to player.

Without Bandai Namco elaborating on the case of the issue, we don’t know which side of the community was right on why it would occur. But hopefully, being able to use their controllers now should matter more than being right on this topic.

The publisher did issue a warning with patch 1.02.3. They stated that if players’ equipment was not correctly appearing in-game, they should verify the game files through Steam. It is unclear if this is related to the patch, but it is worth noting if you play Elden Ring on PC.

PC players will have to wait a while longer until all the issues are resolved in their version of Elden Ring. These include game crashing, frame drops, and stuttering. Most players are likely to finish the game before the most significant issues are fixed, but it is good to know that the game will receive post-launch fixes for a while.
