New Valheim Patch to Fix Portal Exploit and Add Cuddly Deathsquitos!

The latest patch to Valheim, the Viking survival game, is fixing a very useful exploit players have been using to transport ore and resources.

At first, when players would place two portals in the world, say one at their base and the other by a faraway resource-rich location, they were unable to transport said resources back and forth. Ore transport wasn’t allowed through portals.

However, many players were quick to find a hidden exploit. This involved stepping through the portal and clicking a chest or cart at the same time which would add metals to their pockets as they teleport. The latest patch, as stated by the devs, ‘fixes’ this exploit which means players are now going to have to use traditional methods to transport ore back and forth from place to place.

Patch version 0.143.5, which was released on the 10th of February, also lowers the damage dealt by Deathsquitos, probably the most annoying enemies in the game. While the damage may not have been the real problem faced by the players, the Deathsquitos were very adept at approaching players from behind and getting substantial backstab damage.

Other than these two, some other resource duplication exploits have been fixed, AI tweaks have been implemented, and an “enemy awareness indicator” has been added to enemy HUDs.

Here’s a full list of all the fixes and changes the new patch includes:

  • Ragdoll destruction network fix
  • Dedicated server ugly file-flag shutdown system removed (Use CTRL-C or SIGINT instead)
  • Updated reference server start scripts (Please update local copies)
  • World & character save improvements
  • Teleport ore chest hack fix
  • Remove structure resource dupe bug fix
  • Server map set to server name to make it filterable in steam server-browser
  • Localization fixes
  • Added enemy awareness indicator to enemy huds
  • Sneak tweaks
  • Added save directory override to dedicated servers (-savedir)
  • AI fixes
  • Lower dmg on deathsquitos
  • Fixed text-msg icon
  • Updated server manual PDF
  • More serverlist improvements (removed initial serverlist request to lower network trafic)
  • Carts detach when teleporting

We can continue to expect more such fixes as the devs keep improving the game, but we’re sure players are going to miss the ore transport exploit quite a bit. Maybe it’s time someone finds a new exploit altogether?
