New Xbox Event Rumoured to Be on 23rd March

An Xbox event is reportedly being planned for March once Microsoft finalizes its acquisition of ZeniMax media and its subsidiary, Bethesda Softworks. Paul Thurrott wrote on Twitter

While Thurrott never revealed a source for this info, this is going to be the first in a series of Microsoft events. Other sources have pointed to the fact that the March 23rd event will focus primarily on Bethesda games and select third-party titles like Elden Ring, a yet-to-release RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for Windows, PS4, and Xbox One.

Elden Ring is being directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, famous for his work on the Souls franchise, with world building by George R. R. Martin, the author of the Song of Ice and Fire saga.

The Xbox event would coincide with the London Games Festival, slated for March 19th to March 28th, and will feature the events first official selection of new games. The LGF will showcase gaming talent from Black, Asian and marginalized ethnicities in the UK, and also feature an outdoor exhibition in partnership with the City of London Corporation which will be shown in Aldgate Square and Guildhall Yard in March, April and May.

The BAFTA Game Awards will be held in London on the 25th of March. For the first time ever, the event will include the EE Game of the Year Award, voted by fans. Nominees for this award include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Warzone, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, The Last of Us 2 and VALORANT. The shortlist has been decided by a panel of leading industry specialists and gaming journalists, which includes TheGamer’s Editor-in-Chief Kirk McKeand.

Microsoft had announced its intent to acquire ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion last September and the deal is expected to be finalized by the beginning of March. Soon after, the company will announce Xbox events that include Bethesda Softworks titles.
