No More Loud PS5 Disc Drive with This New Update!

The latest PS5 update seems to have fixed whatever would cause the disc inside the drive to start spinning for no reason, causing a lot of noise in the process.

The PS5 has had a very successful launch and has already outsold other consoles such as the WiiU and Sega’s Dreamcast, but it’s not been all smooth sailing. Aside from Sony’s inability to meet the constant demand for the console, there have been some problems with the hardware itself. One issue which has been raised by several PS5 owners was the console’s tendency to loudly check disks at random intervals.

It might not sound like a big deal, but one of the PS5’s selling points is how quiet it is while operating. It’s one of the main reasons the console is so big in size. The good news for those who have encountered this problem is that this week’s PS5 system update seems to have fixed it.

Many PS5 owners have stated that while the sound of the disc spin hasn’t been eradicated completely, it has become quiet enough that it’s barely noticeable.

However, the mystery still remains as to why the disc needs to spin at all, especially if the game is not even in use. The confusing part of this problem has been that the sound occurs, even when a different game is being played, including digital downloads which don’t require the disc at all. It’s assumed that it may be some form of sporadic license check, but that still doesn’t explain why it happens when the game is not even in use.

This week’s update bought with it a host of new features, aside from this surprise bug fix. PlayStation 5 users can now download and store games onto an external hard-drive, but not play off of it as yet. It also bought the feature of cross-gen share play, allowing PS4 and PS5 owners to share their titles with one another.
