Nvidia Drivers are Set to be Windows 10 exclusive this October

If you are still using old Windows as your OS, it might be time for you to upgrade to Windows 10. It has been announced that Nvidia will no longer support Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 drivers starting this October.

Nvidia has declared that drivers will be available for Windows 10 exclusively from October 2021 onwards. Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 drivers will receive critical updates through 2024, but any non-security development is out of the question.

“Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 7 and Windows 8, with Windows 8.1 nearing the end of its lifecycle as well,”

Nvidia stated on their website.

“The vast majority of our GeForce customers have migrated to Windows 10 OS. In order to ensure GeForce owners experience the best possible security, support, and functionality, NVIDIA will now focus on Windows 10 operating system.”

The last Game Ready Driver that will support Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 will be put out on August 31, 2021. From here on, one should not expect any new drivers that work with the Windows mentioned above.

It must also be kept in mind that this will not impact your experience of playing existing games. Your games will run just like usual. However, you will not get to utilize the enhancements that Nvidia adds to their drivers so as to support new games.

Even though 1.3 billion active Windows 10 devices exist currently, Windows 7 is still used by many users. As per Statcounter, 15% of users still depend on Windows 7.

Furthermore, according to Steam usage estimates, Windows 10 accounts for a massive 93% usage while Windows 7 falls under 2%.

Talking about OS, the next generation of Windows is also set to be unveiled on June 24. For now, it’s high time for the users of a later version of Windows to get an upgrade. Nvidia is working day and night to offer innovations. Don’t let outdated hardware or software stand in your way of enjoying the fruits of technology.
