RTX 3080 12 GB Graphics Card from NVIDIA to be Unveiled Jan 11

The NVIDIA RTX 3080 12 GB was supposed to appear at CES 2022, but it was then decided at the last minute to change the date, similar to how the RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB was delayed from its December 17 unveiling.

However, people will not have to wait long before getting official word on NVIDIA’s latest offering. Based on information from specific sources, it has been reported that the card will be unveiled next week on January 11 at 6 AM PST. No word has been given regarding the pricing and availability till now, but pre-orders and even sales will allegedly begin on the same day.

For the RTX 3080 12 GB, NVIDIA is expected to have enabled 70 SM units, resulting in a total of 8960 CUDA cores. This would be a 3% increase over the standard RTX 3080. Along with the CUDA cores bump, the new RTX 3080 12 GB will also come with next-generation Ray-Tracing cores, Tensor cores, and a new SM or streaming multi-processor units. It is expected to have a TDP of 350W.

When talking about memory, the RTX 3080 will come with 12 GB of memory in the next-gen GDDR6X design. Equipped with the latest and greatest memory dies from Micron, the RTX 3080 should be able to deliver GDDR6X memory speeds of 19.0 Gbps.

With the bus interface of 384-bit, expect cumulative bandwidth of 912 GB/s or a 20% increase over the 10 GB variant. The card’s performance should see it getting really close to the RTX 3080 Ti but at a lower price point.

How the market will receive this card depends on the pricing. The MSRP of $699 was not true for the GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB, and that can be expected for the 12 GB variant as well.

It should find its place between the RTX 3080 10 GB and the RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB cards, so we can speculate the price to be between $899-$999 US as the MSRP, and realistic pricing could be expected to be over $1500 US.
