Overwatch 2 is Selling a Highlight Intro from Previous Game for $7 

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game and players can expect Blizzard finding newer and creative ways to make money off the game. Previously, players received credits for duplicates in lootboxes which allowed them to save credits to buy store items. Overwatch 2 made those credits basically useless so players are back to grinding for credits, but even then, some of the store prices don’t sit well with players.  

A Redditor called Whatshouldiputhere0 has found that one highlight intro for Hanzo costs $7 USD in real-world currency. The “Target Practice” highlight intro costs 700 Overwatch credits and this intro was previously also in Overwatch 1. Check out the Reddit post below: 

In the in-game shop, 500 Overwatch credits cost $5 and 1000 credits cost 10$. So players have estimated that the cost of the highlight intro stands in the middle which is 7$ since the intro’s in-game price is 700 credits. 7$ for a highlight intro which was also in the previous game feels scummy. The price of skins and bundles in the game also feel uneven.  

Even though Overwatch 2 has its new in-game currency which can be earned through daily and weekly challenges, it’s a slow and tedious process and it only gives players a fraction of the credits needed to buy items in the game. So, the players who do not have time to grind out the challenges are forced to spend actual money on items in-game.  

It’s a free-to-play game so players expected Blizzard to earn money from it somehow but the monetization wasn’t expected to be this aggressive. Blizzard was also under fire previously for its monetization methods in Diablo Immortal. These aggressive monetization methods in Overwatch 2 make other live service titles on PC and console look better in comparison.  

Overwatch 2 is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
