Overwatch 2 has Serious Lightning Issues & it’s Affecting Gameplay 

Blizzard recently took down Overwatch 2 servers for maintenance on two instances. If the short notice wasn’t surprising enough, the second maintenance session was apparently unplanned, which could mean last-minute errors.  

Overwatch 2 fans are complaining about the sequel’s sun glare, which has been modernized for newer consoles.  

Blizzard has also made the visuals scalable for Nintendo Switch. Despite what was intended, the new changes have not necessarily made the game better. The new built-in weather system introduced day and night time maps. The studio has worked hard on implementing the lighting changes, which are more dynamic, bright, warm, and saturated.  

Other lighting effects might be considered inappropriate in the game. The sun glare, for example, blocks out an entire section of the screen. Even looking around the sun could create a textured lens flare effect. A bug might be the reason for this issue, although the studio has not commented on it.  

A Reddit user pointed out that this is apparent for other sources of brightness as well. Lights in a hallway on King’s Row are surrounded by bright blue and gold halos, which result in a harsh and extreme glare. 

The faulty lightning would not have been a problem if it did not affect players’ gameplay. Since the characters sometimes fly or use verticality in combat, it would be useless if they couldn’t see due to visual obstructions.  

Hopefully, Blizzard will resolve the lighting issues in Overwatch 2. The list of problems seems to go on and on, but some, like server and connectivity issues, are very high priority. 

Overwatch 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Overwatch 2 is set to launch as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022. It will feature full cross-platform play.
