Take a Break from the Action with Elden Ring’s Pause Mod

If FromSoftware games were known for just one thing, it would be their unrelenting brutality. Not only are the areas filled with mobs just waiting to show you that iconic “You Died” screen, but the games don’t even let you take a breather by denying you a pause function. But it looks like modders finally had enough of that, as Elden Ring now has a pause mod available.

Souls games have never had a pause button before. Even when going through your inventory, or the settings menu, your game is still on, and you can still be killed. Sekiro was the only game by FromSoftware to have an official pause button.

This was mainly because it had no online element. But, Elden Ring has changed the way matchmaking works, so players are curious why the developers took a step away from pausing once again.

If you’re playing Elden Ring on consoles, you’re out of luck, but PCs have the advantage of mods to augment their experience. This new mod comes from creator TechieW and is simply titled ‘Pause the Game.

The game can then be paused by hitting the P button on your keyboard. However, installing isn’t as easy as dropping the file into Elden Ring’s .exe path folder. Players will have to disable the anti-cheat first and then implement the mod.

The pause button is not your saving grace. When you unpause, the game will “fast-forward” a little, so if you hit pause just as a boss is about to hit you, that strike is going to land when you’re back in the game, leaving you very little time to dodge.

The function is better used when exploring the open world. This allows you to step away from the game and not have to worry about a random enemy killing you by the time you get back.

A pause button is a minor mod compared to other creators’ projects. Some are working on lighting mods to improve the game’s visuals, one of the most popular ones titled “Antidepressant”. This mod claims that the game is depressed and needs an uplift, so we may see a bit cheerier form of The Lands Between.
